The vintage cottage is available as a Writer’s residence for stays from one to three months. All basic utilities are included in the residency award.
Wollf Cottage provides a quiet and attractive environment in which a writer can work on his or her professional projects. Located in one of the most charming communities in the South but just minutes away from Mobile and the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, residents are afforded the opportunity to experience Fairhope’s unique history and rich literary tradition while exploring this environmentally and culturally diverse region.
With assistance from the FCWA, writers will be asked to make a monthly community presentation. This can take the form of a reading or a talk about your work, a classroom visit, or other public activity of your own design. Each writer will have a local sponsor who will meet the writer and assist him/her with planning the community presentation. Most writers will also be sponsored by a local book club, and the writer will be asked to interact with that group in some way as well. Other than this, every effort is made to ensure a disturbance free stay.
As time and inclination allow, the residents are invited to join in community life, feature their work in local media and make themselves available for interviews with local media.
The house is situated on a quiet street adjacent to Fairhope’s magnificent public library. All town amenities, including restaurants, shops, cafes, book store, and the campus of Faulkner College, are within easy walking distance and there are walking, hiking and cycling opportunities from the doorstep.
